Visiting Scholars and Researchers

Books

The Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto welcomes national and foreign academics and researchers to carry out research in collaboration within its nine Departments and eight Research Centres.

Visiting staff are national or foreign scholars, academics or researchers who propose to carry out a research project under the supervision of a FLUP faculty member or researcher.

This applies to all researchers who do not fall under the framework of study programmes (bachelor, master or doctorate)*, staff mobility (e.g., Erasmus+ Programme, Spain's 'estancias' and IACOBUS Programme, Latin America's Ibero-America Becas, Brazil's 'PhD Research Abroad', among other similar programmes), or post-doctoral studies.

*Note that the 'sandwich doctorate' from Brazil, or any research within an academic degree, falls under mobility programmes/cooperation agreements and should be registered as exchange students.

Useful information

  • The visit to FLUP is temporary and does not establish formal ties with the institution. The visit may be carried out at any time during the year and there are no deadlines for submitting proposals;
  • The research proposals should be addressed to the Directors of the Department or Research Center where the research is to be carried out, attaching the documents mentioned below under ‘Procedures and Documents’.
  • When applicable, non-residents must obtain the appropriate visa for the period of their stay in Portugal;
  • The visiting scholar/researcher is granted, within the available resources, access to FLUP research areas and resources of the department/research centre to which they will be affiliated;
  • Visiting scholars and researchers are encouraged to attend seminars and conferences organised by FLUP's Departments and Research Centres, as well as to present their own research work;
  • FLUP does not provide funding or scholarships for visiting scholars and researchers, so all travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses will have to be financed by their own funds.
  • During their stay at FLUP, visiting scholars and researchers shall be granted access to:
    • UPorto libraries and documentation centres as well as their electronic resources;
    • Use of Public-access computers;
    • Access to the wi-fi network on their personal devices in the University of Porto's premises.
